· Remarks of President Barack Obama - As Prepared for Delivery will be in quotation marks followed by my thoughts.
"I know that for many Americans watching right now, the state of our economy is a concern that rises above all others."
*- Among many things running through my mind, I constantly wonder when change is going to come. At my most hard-working times, in which I am deeply unappreciated, I even think selfishly & wonder when MY change is going to come.
"If you haven't been personally affected by this recession, you probably know someone who has - a friend; a neighbor; a member of your family."
*-To be honest I have been personally affected. However I work so hard that I am not nearly going through the suffering that my friends, my neighbors & most importantly members of my family are going through; that currently reside in locations where poverty thrives much more than it does in some parts here, in America.
"You don't need to hear another list of statistics to know that our economy is in crisis, because you live it every day. It's the worry you wake up with and the source of sleepless nights."
*-God, did this make me tear up. Like Big Brother was watching me all those exhausting times in which I could NOT get any rest. The stress, the worries of not just my family BUT of those that go through worse since the day they were born. Struggles I couldn't even fathom putting myself nor my worst enemy through. The world is of my concern, especially those that will NOT allow themselves to quit. Those that REFUSE to settle for less. I pray for you.
"..the college acceptance letter your child had to put back in the envelope. The impact of this recession is real, and it is everywhere."
*-I personally had to place many college acceptance letters back in their envelopes BEFORE I knew I would live through a recession! So as a diligent, single mother such as myself who has family & friends scattered throughout these 50 states & two other countries I definitely know the burdens, concerns & consequences that are currently taking place in their (not just my own) everyday lives.
"But while our economy may be weakened and our confidence shaken; though we are living through difficult and uncertain times, tonight I want every American to know this: We will rebuild, we will recover, and the United States of America will emerge stronger than before."
*-Hopeful: yes. Convinced: no. I just don't know if people will take this plan of his seriously. Will it be a WE? Will "we" REBUILD?? So much bad going on in the world every second, will "WE" love our neighbors & RESPECT the strength that is supposed to flourish???
"What is required now is for this country to pull together, confront boldly the challenges we face, and take responsibility for our future once more."
*-Again. Hopeful: yes. Convinced: no.
"The fact is, our economy did not fall into decline overnight. Nor did all of our problems begin when the housing market collapsed or the stock market sank. We have known for decades that our survival depends on finding new sources of energy. Yet we import more oil today than ever before. The cost of health care eats up more and more of our savings each year, yet we keep delaying reform. Our children will compete for jobs in a global economy that too many of our schools do not prepare them for. And though all these challenges went unsolved, we still managed to spend more money and pile up more debt, both as individuals and through our government, than ever before."
*-With all due respect, thank you very fucking much, Mr. President. [FRUSTRATED SIGH] I just feel like he's bullshitting but to a certain extent. Because like tonight, with his speech. So much damn clapping, cheering, & "wooo's" going on when not much has improved. Anyway, let me touchdown w/reality. Progress has been made & he's aware of the problems & am glad he isn't sugar-coating anything. Then again, this is the gov't & like he's mentioned before trust in the gov't needs to be reinstated. So he might be sugar-coatin' a few things.
"And all the while, critical debates and difficult decisions were put off for some other time on some other day."
*-I'm glad he addressed the issues with the banks but I managed to apply this statement with my mother. She continues to do things that make my life harder because I have to fix her messes. Things that need to be addressed aren't because she doesn't make them her priority. Then I get the news & I get so frustrated because I'm the bank in this family. When no one has money, I NEED to have it. My mom just reminds me that respect needs to be earned. I'm sure she hasn't felt respect coming from me & perhaps maybe that's why she's down most of the times I need the uplifting after a long day. But she needs to be as strong, if not stronger, than I am.
"There are 57 police officers who are still on the streets of Minneapolis tonight because this plan prevented the layoffs their department was about to make."
*-I don't know about you but I don't need them.
"I understand that skepticism. Here in Washington, we've all seen how quickly good intentions can turn into broken promises and wasteful spending."
*-Thank you, once again Mr. President.
"That is why I have asked Vice President Biden to lead a tough, unprecedented oversight effort - because nobody messes with Joe. I have told each member of my Cabinet as well as mayors and governors across the country that they will be held accountable by me and the American people for every dollar they spend. I have appointed a proven and aggressive Inspector General to ferret out any and all cases of waste and fraud. And we have created a new website called recovery.gov so that every American can find out how and where their money is being spent."
*-Word?! I'm.. [speechless]
"So the recovery plan we passed is the first step in getting our economy back on track. But it is just the first step. Because even if we manage this plan flawlessly, there will be no real recovery unless we clean up the credit crisis that has severely weakened our financial system."
*-Great. This is the plan but this is just the first step. Good. What's the next issue. Let's resolve it. I like that.
"Still, this plan will require significant resources from the federal government - and yes, probably more than we've already set aside. But while the cost of action will be great, I can assure you that the cost of inaction will be far greater, for it could result in an economy that sputters along for not months or years, but perhaps a decade. That would be worse for our deficit, worse for business, worse for you, and worse for the next generation. And I refuse to let that happen."
*-[SIGH] One man can't put all this pressure on himself.. I don't know what to think at this point.
"None of this will come without cost, nor will it be easy. But this is America. We don't do what's easy. We do what is necessary to move this country forward."
*-Powerful words. History has shown us that with all the struggle our country has gone through, we do manage to resurface. Perhaps with more consequences at hand.. But I won't get into that.
"But we know that our schools don't just need more resources. They need more reform."
*-Ahh yes.
"And so tonight, I ask every American to commit to at least one year or more of higher education or career training. This can be community college or a four-year school; vocational training or an apprenticeship. But whatever the training may be, every American will need to get more than a high school diploma. And dropping out of high school is no longer an option. It's not just quitting on yourself, it's quitting on your country - and this country needs and values the talents of every American. That is why we will provide the support necessary for you to complete college and meet a new goal: by 2020, America will once again have the highest proportion of college graduates in the world."
*-One of my friends hit me up about this. Asked me if I was listening to him challenging us. & I heard him. I told him how I personally think that no one should stop seeking Higher Learning.
"These education policies will open the doors of opportunity for our children. But it is up to us to ensure they walk through them. In the end, there is no program or policy that can substitute for a mother or father who will attend those parent/teacher conferences, or help with homework after dinner, or turn off the TV, put away the video games, and read to their child. I speak to you not just as a President, but as a father when I say that responsibility for our children's education must begin at home."
*-Yes, yes, yes. As a mother, I KNOW this.
"There is, of course, another responsibility we have to our children. And that is the responsibility to ensure that we do not pass on to them a debt they cannot pay."
*-I REFUSE to ever let this happen to Andrew. The reason I work SO hard, the TIME I spend AWAY from him is so that he NEVER has to suffer. He gets the world from me.
"We are now carefully reviewing our policies in both wars, and I will soon announce a way forward in Iraq that leaves Iraq to its people and responsibly ends this war."
*-Soon, good. Can we leave other lands alone & focus on the madness we have going on here?
"As we meet here tonight, our men and women in uniform stand watch abroad and more are readying to deploy. To each and every one of them, and to the families who bear the quiet burden of their absence, Americans are united in sending one message: we honor your service, we are inspired by your sacrifice, and you have our unyielding support."
*-For lack of better words, "chuuch."
"For in our hands lies the ability to shape our world for good or for ill."
*-How are you (you, my reader) going to shape our world?
"But in my life, I have also learned that hope is found in unlikely places; that inspiration often comes not from those with the most power or celebrity, but from the dreams and aspirations of Americans who are anything but ordinary."
*-I felt like he took my words & said them tonight, here. At the same time felt like he was talking about me when he mentioned those who are anything but ordinary. Hey, gotta give myself credit. I'm deserving of it.
"I think about Greensburg, Kansas, a town that was completely destroyed by a tornado, but is being rebuilt by its residents as a global example of how clean energy can power an entire community - how it can bring jobs and businesses to a place where piles of bricks and rubble once lay. "The tragedy was terrible," said one of the men who helped them rebuild. "But the folks here know that it also provided an incredible opportunity."
*-Optimism at its best.
"And I think about Ty'Sheoma Bethea, the young girl from that school I visited in Dillon, South Carolina - a place where the ceilings leak, the paint peels off the walls, and they have to stop teaching six times a day because the train barrels by their classroom. She has been told that her school is hopeless, but the other day after class she went to the public library and typed up a letter to the people sitting in this room. She even asked her principal for the money to buy a stamp. The letter asks us for help, and says, "We are just students trying to become lawyers, doctors, congressmen like yourself and one day president, so we can make a change to not just the state of South Carolina but also the world. We are not quitters."
*-I said it before & I'll say it again: I pray for those of you who refuse to quit.
"These words and these stories tell us something about the spirit of the people who sent us here. They tell us that even in the most trying times, amid the most difficult circumstances, there is a generosity, a resilience, a decency, and a determination that perseveres; a willingness to take responsibility for our future and for posterity."
*-Beautiful.
"..if we confront without fear the challenges of our time and summon that enduring spirit of an America that does not quit, then someday years from now our children can tell their children that this was the time when we performed.."
*-I am determined for Andrew to be proud of OUR time. However: "The past is the past. I'm presently thinking 'bout the future." [That was Joe Budden NOT President Barack Obama, LOL!!]
P.S. Did you get Padded Room yet? ;)

Reaching out
From me to a friend.
Idk the status of you & your son but I was wondering, where do u get your strength from?
I'm.. Havin a really hard time right now w/o my boy. & as of now I still get to see him. Every thursnight til sunnight. But every sunnight after dropping him off, I get home n it isn't home u kno? His room, well our room just.. I mean I don't spend any time in there unless I'm getting some sleep, cleaning, or playing w/him. So last night I dropped him off, got home, got ready for my graveyard shift & left. Felt a bit depressed when I got to work but eventually shook it off. When I walked out of work this morning, I looked at the navy blue sky w/bits of pink coming thru & I interpreted that image as hope. Like, everything will be all right. & suddenly I was happy. So I'm feeling good, feeling great. Then I put my key in my door & I was hit with reality. Of him not being inside. He's not sleeping in his bed. Idk why I feel like I'm not gonna see him again whenever he's not WITH me. I just do. & his dad. Man. He's so mean to me. So mean. I was askin myself earlier, what the fuck did I do to deserve this. Why does he treat me like I did nothing for him when I gave him more than I ever think I could give to someone else. Can't he just think of our son? I work mad hard for mine, I hold my own. Struggle much but I manage. & he's spiteful & malicious but has a great job, new car, nice ass new apt.. & I'm just. Not. There. Yet.
*sigh*
I just. I know I wrote more than I initially intended to but I need strength & the point of this novel was to, I suppose, gain insight & strength from you because you feel me or vice versa to a certain extent.
No rush.
Thanks.
P.S. Good morning btw lol. Sorry :) Hope you're all right, Michelle.

What Inspires Me
There are three things that inspire me. In the following order:
Now LOVE is MUSIC, LOVE is ART & MUSIC comes from your love for it & in itself IS an ART. The way one makes love & makes music is ART. But individually: Love, Music & Art are extremely powerful. You can not have one without the other.
With me, if I have more Love going on than Art (many interpretations of these words, as you know), I am at my strongest. If I have both Love & Music going on, I'm pretty much unstoppable. But there's something about Art that calms me down. That lets me reach within myself to seek a better future & start building to make it a reality. Art makes me plan & get ideas. Love & Music has me in action without stopping to think whether I'm doing something wrong because with the help of Art, I know that I am already doing things right.

The Strength To Go On
Welcome home, while away
They have tampered with the locks
And your things they rearranged
"We propose...a better way"
Said the note they left behind
In their wake of disarray
You fell in place
Don't fall asleep
They'll find us here
I know a place, to disappear
As a voice proclaimed
Let us cry, let us be
Let us open up our hearts
Without fear of anything
Faith alone's all we need
To traverse this burning bridge
Now before it gets too late
You claim, "it's fine"
But the heart reveals
What smiles betray
Your sad, sad eyes
Gave you away
Don't you know
Our shoulders bear an awful weight
But still we trudge on just the same
Our colors run then leave a stain
They blacken our once honest name
How can we argue, tell me
Over the fury and the fire
How many times can we tell you that we
Are not like you, we see right through
The poor disguise that fails to fool
The wary eye is trained on you
What we are is the sum of 1000 lies
What we know is almost nothing at all
But we are what we are till the day we die
Or till we don't have the strength to go on
Till we don't have the strength to go on
Yeah, till we don't have the strength to go on.

Long Overdue Pt. 1
This post will be purely words til I figure out what's wrong w/my laptop. I know, I know what you're sayin'.. most of my posts are just words but I wanted to bring pictures into this one; that will be Pt. 2.
January 30th. Almost two weeks ago. Still fresh in my mind though. Allow me to tell you about that day/night, unedited ('cause I don't give a ffff..) so excuse any & all typos. After all, I am in the dark, mobile bloggin.. As usual.
That day I was communicating throughout the day with Young De. You may or may not have heard of this dude w/talent. Whether it's that infamous YouTube video where he's drinking a whole bottle of Patron - fuckin' crazy I say - or his flow/rhymes (check him out on MySpace.com/YoungDetho), OR maybe you saw him w/B-Real.. INTERRUPTION!! Must I have to say B-Real from Cypress Hill for you to know who he is?
Anyway. B-Real is "boss-man" to Young De.. Fuckin' legend to me. I happened to meet both of these men on the 30th of January. B-Real was hosting The Psycho Realm in San Diego & I was invited to roll out w/this entourage of goofballs. I swear that's what they all are when in the same room. & it's funny, when BUSINESS is being mentioned, like a light switch! *serious face* & it's no longer a laughing matter.
i.e.: Met a road manager by the name of Dougie & he's nothin' but a hoot. ALREADY has a unique voice but decides to have a variety to choose from when speaking to others. Absolutely hilarious & nothin' but a good time. However an important individual, lol @ Jenn, happened to walk in & ask about the schedule/show that night. Dougie, straight-faced after crackin' a few jokes, stood up, spit out some facts dealin' w/his artists, laid it down! Then went back to bullshittin'. YO, I LIKE THAT!!
When we can fuck around & have a good time.. LET'S. But when it's time to talk business & our future in how we're gonna make this money.. Again: LET'S.
People that are able to differentiate between business & pleasure go a LONG way - I don't care what you say. Because there are too many sensitive people out there. & you can point 'em out too when you come across someone who can't juggle both. Too easy!! Don't take shit personal when we're havin' a good time. & definitely don't take shit personal when it's constructive criticism.
"I thought we were coo.."
So. Met B-Real, Young De, Dougie & other importants that I won't name because I forgot. (Just keepin' it real). I tagged along for Psycho Realm's performance & couldn't be MORE pleased. First time to see them perform & I was so hype! These "artists" & their entourage so down-to-earth & polite. Humble folk. Pleasure to meet them all. Except "Krazy" from Flavor of Love 7 or whatever. I mean, not hatin', she's beautiful.. But I think it'd be a smart move to stay away from that - if you know what I'm sayin'.
My list of what I noticed (keep up):
· groupies
· fans
· crazies
· industry-folk
· people wanting to chill backstage in the lounge or whatever you want to call it SO BADLY like we were having the time of our lives, knowin' damn well we're just drinkin' water - LOL - takin' a couple of free shots of Patron (never again for me thanks, glad that nasty ish was free), chillin', talkin' about the performance, music, blogs, talent, our future..
· ass
· the slut letting the one-word (above) show :)
· & a couple of other drunk hoes that happened to make it backstage & give a couple guys a happy ending
· wack-ass security in the building LOL tellin' me I can't take any pictures - Oh believe me! I kept snappin'!! Had a "I wish they would.." attitude O:-)
All in all, the performance was phenomenal & the crowd had as much energy as those that were on stage; it was such a great vibe. I loved how it wasn't just the people near the stage hell'a hype.. People all the way in the back were feelin' this! Psycho Realm gets TWO thumbs all the way UP from me. PLEASE stay tuned for Pt. 2 of this post where I will be including pictures & maybe a video ;-)
OH!!! Tell me why I schooled B-Real tho! I gave this dude a spanish lesson!! Go ahead & test him.. Ask him how you say CRABS in spanish.. If he doesn't say, CANGREJO & INSISTS it's ALACRANES (scorpions), then he was too high when I taught him therefore forgot I was sittin' on the same couch as him, clownin' the hell out of him.
If I happened to forget anything, which I'm sure I did I will add my 2 cents in Pt. 2.
You already know.

Tootin' My Own Horn
This year has been CRAZY - in a good, turmoil type of way - if that makes sense.
I'm even hungrier for success then I was a yr ago. Didn't think that was possible. But I have goals & plans that need to take place. Without my diligence, I can tell you in one yr I will be in the same spot as I am tonight:
Taking care of four individuals while my life is passing me by.
Yo, how you expect me to succeed & take care of you? Have you asked me how I'm doing lately? Nah, the fact that the laptop that belongs to me is now fucked up due to your dating site-galore searchin' is a bit more important then your first born nowadays.
Mommy, sometimes I need you.
To not be my friend.
Be my guidance.
We can laugh all day every day & crack jokes but.. Your life isn't a laughing matter. & you can't keep asking me to take care of things around the house, let alone ya life, when you don't even ask if I'm taking care of myself.
How do you tell your mother this?
Mothers don't need to be told this.
I still hold hope. Hope that I will allow you to be my mother. Hope that I will forgive you for leaving me when I needed you the most. That critical point in my life where being angry, proud & stubborn became my worst qualities. I'm helping myself though. As best as I know how. Why don't I ask for your help?
How can I ask for your help when you can't even help yourself.
Tragedy, I embrace you.

THIS OLD HEART OF MINE
This old heart of mine been broken
a thousand times
Each time you break away
I feel you're gone to stay
Lonely nights that come memories
that flow
Bringing you back again hurting me
more and more
Maybe it's my mistake
To show this love I feel inside
Cause each day that passes by
You got me never knowing if I'm
coming or going
But I love you this old heart of mine
Darling is weak for you
Darling I love you yes I do, yes I do
These old arms of mine miss having
you around
Makes these tears inside start
pouring down
Always with half a kiss
You remind me of what I miss
Tho I try hard to control myself
Like a fool I start grinning cause my
head starts spinning
I love you this old heart of mine
Is weak for you
I love you yes I do, yes I do
I try hard to hide my hurt inside
This old heart of mine
always keeps me crying
The way you treat me
leaves me incomplete
You're here for a day
and gone for a week
If you leave me a hundred times
I believe
A hundred times
I would take you back
Cause I'm yours
whenever you want me
I'm not too proud to shout it,
tell the world about it, baby
I love you this old heart of mine
Is weak for you –
I love you yes I do, yes I do
I love you this old heart of mine
Is weak for you
I love you this old heart of mine
Is weak for you –
Darling I'm weak for you
Darling I'm mad about you
I love you
This old heart of mine
Is weak for you

WEST COAST PREMIER PERFORMANCE!!

News Update February 8, 2009
MURS 3:16 IN ASSOCIATION WITH GUERILLA UNION PRESENT 4th ANNUAL "PAID DUES" INDEPENDENT HIP-HOP FESTIVAL CONFIRM ADDITION OF NEWLY FORMED RAP SUPERGROUP SLAUGHTERHOUSE
The "PAID DUES" INDEPENDENT HIP-HOP FESTIVAL--presented by MURS 3:16 in association with Guerilla Union (Rock The Bells, Cypress Hill Smoke Out)- have announced the addition of the buzz-worthy supergroup, Slaughterhouse, which consists of lyricists Joe Budden, Royce Da 5'9", Joell Ortiz, and Crooked I. For the first time, the audience at PAID DUES will witness the exclusive West Coast premiere performance of Slaughterhouse.
"We're honored to be joining this year's Paid Dues Festival and look forward to giving the fans a great show. Joe, Crooked, Joell and myself are very excited to bring Slaughterhouse to such a prestigious event and we look forward to becoming a part of hip-hop history," states Royce Da 5'9". Joe Budden adds, "We're all equally excited about this opportunity and we're going to tear that stage down. It's our first west coast performance so needless to say we value the chance...and we're going to perform as such!"
The four-man collective recently released a track titled "Onslaught" which has received a lot of hype over internet blogs and discussion boards. Building from the excitement and overwhelming response, the idea of forming a group and producing an album was born. On January 22nd, Slaughterhouse held their first live performance in front of a sold-out crowd at S.O.B.'s in NY. A feature on XXLmag.com, has tabbed the group as the "The Fantastic Four of Rap."
Murs shares his excitement, "Now the world is in trouble! I feel that with the addition of Slaughterhouse to the Paid Dues line up, we have the greatest hip-hop show of the year and quite possibly our best line up since year one. Definitely the most exciting! Slaughterhouse is comprised of 4 MC's who are Paid Dues artists to the core. They have amassed an astounding buzz and built a very impressive following by using their raw talent and maintaining a healthy relationship with their fanbase. They are real MC's, lyricists who refuse to 'dumb it down' in order to gain the favor of the mainstream. Instead they have used the wonders of modern technology to tap into their "core" and expand their empire. Making this group one of the most talked about collectives since...well it's been a long time since I've heard so many real hip-hop heads so excited about anything. That's why we had to reach out and grab them for Paid Dues even though it was last minute and it put us over budget. We said, "screw it!" In these difficult financial times I feel that our fans deserve the best show / party possible."
PAID DUES is an all-ages show. Tickets are available now for $40 and limited VIP tickets for $100. VIP package include festival backpack, t-shirt, artist meet & greet and much more.
This year's installment of PAID DUES follows the festival's third sold-out annual Southern California event in 2008 which featured artists such as Sage Francis, Little Brother, Hieroglyphics, Buckshot of the Boot Camp Clik and Yak Ballz. 2008 also saw the festival make stops in New York, NY, Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Denver, CO. In 2006 the first PAID DUES festival--with a line-up featuring Felt, Aesop Rock, Living Legends, El-P, Hangar 18 and more--sold out with over 5,000 concert goers packing the Shrine Expo Center in Los Angeles. The following year MURS and Guerilla Union, along with performers Felt, Living Legends, Sage Francis, Brother Ali and others--teamed up again for the PAID DUES festival tour for over ten dates across the country.
MORE ABOUT SLAUGHTERHOUSE: Slaughterhouse features four respected underground hip-hop MC's that span from coast to coast who each have individual albums coming out in 2009.
Joe Budden hails from New Jersey and is known for his mixtapes and 2003 hit "Pump It Up." He is set to release his upcoming album, Padded Room, on February 24th, 2009 through Amalgam Digital. As a prequel to the album, Budden released a digital-only album, Halfway House, in October. It was the first digital-only hip-hop release utilizing both traditional marketing method and new media viral marketing initiatives.
Royce Da 5'9" is a West Side Detroit rapper who was associated with Eminem early in his career. For his solo projects, he has worked with DJ Premiere, DJ Green Lantern and 9th Wonder. He has also written tracks for Diddy and Dr. Dre. Coming in March 2009, Royce will release his Premiere-assisted album, Street Hop, by M.I.C. Recordings
Brooklyn-born Joell Ortiz was featured in the "Unsigned Hype" column of the March 2004 issue of The Source and was also selected as Chairman's Choice in XXL. During the same time Ortiz also went on to win the 2004 EA Sports Battle which earned his song, "Mean Business," a spot on the NBA Live 2005 soundtrack. He is said to be dropping his new album on Koch Records called The Free Agent later in 2009.
Long Beach lyricist Crooked I is currently the CEO of his label, Dynasty Entertainment. Prior to Dynasty, Crooked I was signed to Death Row Records, where he released a few mixtapes and compilations but was never able to release his own album. In 2008, he released 3 mixtapes titled St. Valentine's Day Bossacre, The Block Obama: Hood Politics and Block Obama II. Crooked I's debut album, B.O.S.S. (Beginning of Something Serious), will be released some time in 2009.

All I Got: a beating heart
I'm speeding through my days
Hope to see tomorrow
But you get one chance at life
So if I do die, before the sun rise
Please, put my name in lights
Hope to see tomorrow
But you get one chance at life
So if I do die, before the sun rise

In The Name Of Love
Must you be so spiteful.
I gave you my all.
& because you make more money than I do, you have the control.
Unfunny the way things have turned out.
The decisions we make to stay in something we knew we should have gotten out of early on.
